When I decided to change the wallpaper in the walk-in closet from a textured herringbone fabric to a tartan plaid wallpaper, it was because I had a specific idea in mind.

When I first began designing, I created a dress that went from striped to plaid. I manipulated the fabric by pleating it to create the striped pattern, slowly letting the pleats out to reveal the plaid.

I decided to use this same concept but with our accent wall in the walk-in closet. Iโm going to use the wallpaper on the ceiling, then extend the design down the walls about a foot. Once the wallpaper stops Iโm going to extend the design down the accent wall as a stripe. (Below is a mock up of my idea)

I think it will create subtle interest on the wall, and also elongate the space. But Iโll truly know if the idea will work once I start experimenting in the space.
Iโll be sharing more about the process over the next few weeks as I begin wallpapering and painting.

very cool! so creative. I remember that dress… it was 4AM and we were both in the studio, you had finished I believe the top and were wondering how to execute the skirt, or vice versa. I can’t remember our friend’s name rn – Jen? – but her boyfriend delivered her a coffee on his bike. Those were the days. love the shots!
