The first project of 2025 is going to be our downstairs hallway. This is a high traffic hallway because it leads to our garage, which is a main entry for our family.

When we first moved into our house, we changed the full house paint color to Cumulus Cloud by Benjamin Moore. I picked this color to use throughout the house because itโs a versatile neutral. Itโs not too light, so it is suitable for children touching and scuffing the walls. It also matches with a wide range of colors, so as I design or change the rooms in the house, I can keep the base of the walls the same.

The other thing I changed were the light switch and outlet covers. I used paintable covers. I have used these throughout the house and love how easy they were to paint and install. Weโve had them on our outlets and switches for 2 years and I have had to do minimal touch ups. They are also easy to clean and disinfect without the paint chipping.

Adding the covers provided an opportunity to correct the switch positions. As we began to place the covers, we realized many of the switches were installed askew.
Now that Iโm ready to plan for the hallway, I know I want it to feel taller in height. I also want to accentuate the length of the hallway with art and photos and a nice runner rug. The last thing I want to tackle is a small pantry closet. I would like to convert it to look like a built in, with drawers and a cabinet. Although the closet is small, changing the format will allow for more storage in the hallway. Pictured below are the inspiration and mood board for my idea.

Over the next eight weeks, I will be participating in the One Room Challenge. Participants are encouraged to choose a space in their home and transform it in 8 weeks. Each week I will be sharing a blog post to update you on my progress. Follow along to see how the hallway turns out.
