Celebrating Two Years in Our Home: Lessons Learned

I canโ€™t believe we are celebrating two years in our home! At the beginning of the year I had a list of projects I wanted to complete. But as the year moved on, and the closet project was complete. I realized I needed some time to just live in our home. To see how our day to day unfolded, especially since each of our kids are in new phases of interests and life because of their ages.

Although I had ideas for projects and the vision of how I wanted our home to look, I also needed a moment to figure out how the spaces we were in needed to function for our family.

One thing I have heard from other new home owners, is how projects they worked on in the first years of living in their houses arenโ€™t serving them now, and how they want to change the original project. Although I know changes will happen, Iโ€™d like to enjoy the changes we make for a long while without regret about a design or function decision.

So, with all that being said, my original project list has changed. Iโ€™m going to be focusing on projects that address storage and function issues in our home first and then complete full room designs, where the function is more obvious, and the aesthetic is more of a focus.

Another focus of year two was maintenance, a thing a lot of online home accounts donโ€™t talk about, but I think as a former renter turned homeowner are important. Some things we tackled were appliance maintenance for long term usage, garage door function , garage installation, heating and cool bills and ways to save, septic pumping and landscaping, which is a project my husband, Cruz, has taken on. He has made incredible progress on our yard and I want to highlight it on the blog this year as well.

As we move into year three, I am grateful for the things we have learned, for the memories we are making and the moments we share in our home. Iโ€™m looking forward to more laughter, more love and more projects.
