Cozy Back Deck Makeover

As the temperatures warmed this month, I knew we would be spending more time outdoors. The kids love playing in the backyard, and in the neighborhood, and we didnโ€™t have an outdoor patio set.

For most of our time renting we lived on the second floor or higher with no balcony, or deck space.

I knew I wanted a simple set, affordable and on the smaller side, since our back deck isnโ€™t that big. I found not only the patio set at Walmart, but a rug, 2 side tables and an adjustable umbrella!

4 Piece Patio Set

The patio set was just enough, we needed seating for the four of us, and although we thought a sofa would be nice, having the separate seating worked out best for individual space.

Better Homes & Gardens Outdoor Rug

The rug is woven not plastic and has held up with the heat and the rainy days.

Better Homes and Gardens Adjustable Outdoor Umbrella

The umbrella is great, because it adjusts from side to side, so you can block out the sun from whichever direction it may be shining. Itโ€™s pretreated and holds up well in rainy weather. We did swap out the base to a much heavier one from Amazon- we filled it with water to give it weight, and to be able to empty it and store it for the winter, but some people opt for sand, which works well too.

Throw Pillows and inserts from Amazon

The throw pillows and inserts are from Amazon. They are available in packs of 2 and I think the pattern not being identical gives the set a bit more visual interest.

Small side tables

The last items I found at Walmart were these small side tables. They were the perfect additions to finish off our weekend deck makeover.

  1. Oh my gosh it looks fantastic! So classy with the coordinating pillows and rug, and a nice set-up to sit and enjoy a cool drink while watching the kids play. I’m sure it’s so so wonderful to have a yard after all those years renting – so happy for you! xo
