Our downstairs floor plan is an open concept. With the dining room and living room so close, I knew when we bought our home I wanted to create some distinction between the two. An easy way to do this is to add box molding or wainscoting to the wall. Although wainscoting is the traditional route, I wanted to use box molding because I’m not sure the direction I want to go with the dining room yet, in terms of design, and I feel the box molding is more versatile for different design aesthetics.
Here are some images I love as inspiration:

To start I’m going to keep it simple and add single-box molding to the space. It will give the room height and ground the area in the open concept layout.

Also, the builders installed the dining room light wrong, it’s not centered. When we change the light, we are going to hire an electrician to move it to the correct spot.
But, for now, I’m focused on adding the box molding to the wall. I will share more of the process in my next post.
