Organizing Toys: Easy Closet Solutions

This weekend, I gave my son’s closet a quick makeover using a Closet Maid closet system. I like the Closet Maid systems as a temporary solution for closets that will change over time. The system allows for various closet setups based on how you install the shelving and position the anchoring pole. For my son’s room, the main concern was getting his toys organized and inside of his closet.

The first thing I did was plan out the setup of the closet system.

Next, I removed the standard shelf that runs along the top of the closet and filled the nail holes.

Then I nailed in the shelf holders and began placing in the new shelving units

Once the full system was installed, I began to organize. For this project I didn’t purchase anything new – I used what I had around the house. I started by making all of my son’s most used toys the most accessible. The items he doesn’t use as much, I added to the top shelves and also put them into bins.

Then I made labels with words and pictures of his most used action figures and sorted the action figures according to the marked drawer. Inside the drawers, I used old shoe boxes to create compartments for the different action figures.

This closet makeover was a simple one-day task. It required little outside of what I already had in the house, but it’s helped my son keep his toys in order and inside of his closet when its time to clean up, which is a win!
