Shop Smart: Open Box Items Explained

Since moving into our new home from an apartment, we have had to plan for furnishing more space and buying more furniture and home decor items. Itโ€™s made shopping for deals a priority.

One thing I like to do besides shopping sales is to look at Open Box items.

Open Box sales are sales on items that have been purchased and returned. The companies still want to get these items out of their inventory, but usually offer large discounts, because they have been unboxed and returned.

Most open box items are in โ€œlike newโ€ condition. A lot of times they are returned because they were the wrong finish, not the right size or didnโ€™t look like the buyer thought it would in person.

When visiting a website, search โ€œOpen Boxโ€ to see if the company offers open box sales.

I shopped Wayfairโ€™s Open Box items for the kidโ€™s bathroom light. It was in โ€œlike newโ€ condition and had no issues when delivered.

The original price for the light was: $349

The price I paid Open Box: $98

The light was the perfect style and size for the kidโ€™s bathroom, and I was so happy with the savings. I plan to continue to look at open box sales both for large decor items and small accessories.
