How to Make Your Bathroom Feel Bigger

One trend I’ve seen often on Instagram that I tried in my children’s bathroom was installing the shower curtain higher than where our tub unit ends.

Doing this adds height to the space and can make smaller bathrooms feel bigger. I decided to take some inspiration from Tasha of Kaleidoscope Living and use a double rod install.

One rod holds the curtains and one rod holds the liner

I ordered extra long curtains that measured 95 inches and an extra long cloth shower liner, both being washable, so I can clean them whenever needed. When thinking of the curtain height for your own bathroom, ideally you want your shower liner 6-8 inches higher than the top of your shower tile/unit, and the curtains to sit 3-4 inches higher than the liner. I also ordered two curtain rods along with curtain rod holders.

The rod holders were only offered in white, so I spray painted them to match the gold of the curtain rods. I screwed the first holders into the wall at a height that would allow the liner to fall inside of the tub, and hung the second rod so the outer curtains would have some gather on the bathroom floor.

First I taped the liner up to make sure it would hang inside of the tub, before making any marks for measurements

I added the curtains and liner to the curtain rods and added the rods to the holders. My children will use the shower liner on a regular basis while showering, but the outer curtains stay in place.

I chose black shower curtain rings to accent the black counter top

I love the height this gives the bathroom, it draws your eye up and also compliments the handpainted accent wall.
