Transforming Our Closet: Design Changes and Updates

This week was Spring Break for the kids, it was filled with a lot of activities and since the weather is finally warm and sunny in New England, a lot of time outdoors.

Itโ€™s also week 3 of the One Room Challenge, if youโ€™re just joining you can read about my idea for the closet HERE and week twoโ€™s progress HERE.

Between all of the activities, I did manage to fit in small tasks that took under an hour to complete every few days.

I sanded the patchwork from last week, taped the walls for paint as well as painted the walls and the outlet switch covers.

The portion of the wall that is still blue will be a continuation of the pattern I plan to add to the ceiling.

The biggest thing I did this week was pivot the design of the closet. Originally I wanted dark wood for the closet system. I love the look of dark wood in closets, they feel timeless.

But this design is not the final design I have for this space. Years down the road, we plan on changing the full layout of the closet; and when we do we will change the closet system too. When that time comes I want to be able to take the closet systems from our walk-in closet and use them in our kids closets, as an upgrade since they will be older.

So I changed our original dark wood finishes to white, and although I will keep the same lighting and hardware, I decided to use a different pattern on the ceiling and accent wall. I do still intend to have storage in this closet, but I will decide on the colors when I have the ceiling pattern complete.

Next up Iโ€™ll be wallpapering the ceiling then continuing the pattern by painting it onto the walls with a slight variation. Iโ€™ll be sharing more about the process next week!
