Last fall I participated in my first One Room Challenge (ORC) and it was such a great experience, Iโve decided to participate this Spring.

A little backstory- the One Room Challenge is an 8 week design challenge. Participants select one room in their home to transform in 8 weeks. Itโs not a competition, but a rather an online community of designers and DIYers along with anyone who needs a little motivation to finish a home project.
This past fall I chose my daughterโs bedroom to transform, and although Iโm currently working on the kidโs bathroom– Iโm going to pivot and choose our Master Bedroom walk-in closet for the challenge.

I have a great idea for our walk-in closet, but itโs a long term goal, one we wonโt tackle for some years down the road, because itโs going to require demo and hiring people to change itโs layout.
So for now we are fixing a builder grade issue. Our current closet had 2 wire racks that went around the closet. We were fine with this set up for the time being. Unfortunately our builder didnโt install the wire racks correctly and one of the racks collapsed, leaving most of our clothing on the floor and holes and broken brackets in the wall where the rack fell off. The 2nd rack is buckled and half broken, so we have taken the clothing off that rack as well.

Besides being abruptly awoken in the middle of the night when it collapsed, we were also faced with having to figure out what to do about all of our clothing and the closet in general.

I figured the One Room Challenge would be the perfect time to address our closet or lack of one at this moment.
Our solution is pretty simple, we are going to add in a closet system to each of the side walls and a mirror and small ottoman to the wall facing the doorway. Iโd like to paint and wallpaper the closet as well and add some new hardware to the closet system.

Iโll be sharing all of the progress we make weekly along with the reveal at the end of the 8 weeks.
