4 Transitional Pieces of Furniture for a Child’s Bedroom

I think there are a few staple pieces of furniture that you can invest money into, and see them transition with your child as they grow into different phases of childhood.

1. Full Size Bed:

After the transition from a crib to a toddler bed, I think the next step isn’t a twin bed, but a full-size bed. I always feel the full size bed, allows children to grow into them, and once they are teens, the bed fits their size and there isn’t a need to upgrade.

2. Bookshelf:

A great bookshelf will serve its purpose in any room of the house. I don’t think a child’s room should be any different. Invest in a sturdy well made bookshelf that will weather the toys, and books stored over the years.

3. Desk:

Just as the bookshelf will get many years of use, I believe the same is true of a well made desk. I would skip the smaller child desks, which they will out grow in a few years and buy a larger sized desk with its future use in mind.

4. Storage Bench:

A well made storage bench can transition from storing toys to seasonal clothing as children become older. Deep drawers, or a large storage compartment instead of open storage cubbies will allow for more storage options in the future.

Beyond the options that I used in my daughter’s room, I’ve also included a few finds of each item in different styles to see the versatility you can bring to your child’s bedroom, while still having a transitional piece that can be used in their room as well as other areas of your house as the years pass.
