Azulejo Tile Project

At the beginning of the year I announced I would be partnering with the Fall River Cultural Council, (FRCC) a local division of the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency, and the Fall River Public Library to create my first public art project **. While going through the logistics of making all the moving parts work for the installation, the pandemic hit along with the stay at home advisory.

The pandemic, along with the closing of many public spaces left a lot up in the air. Ordering supplies during the down time also proved challenging, and on top of all that uncertainty, was the unknown of if the collaborations would still happen. So for the duration of the stay at home advisory I waited, not moving forward with the project and seeing if there would be a new way to achieve the same result.

Last month I received confirmation that the project was still on. I was excited to hear from the library, and know they still wanted the tiles to adorn the outdoor staging. There is no set timeline for the completion, since we are still unsure about social gatherings, re-openings and construction of the staging. But knowing it will happen, is the exciting part. As the project moves forward in the future, I’ll be sharing updates and the final install.

**ย This project is supported in part by a grant from the Fall River Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
