All the Stockings were Hung…DIY Style

After creating our Advent Calendar for the holidays a few years back, each year I try a Pinterest inspired holiday gift or project for the Christmas season.

The first year I made DIY Coffee Scrub along with other goodies and paired ย them with our eco-chic studs for my family and friends.

The next year I made these fun on the go cocktails for my closest friends. It was so fun finally utilizing the mason jar trend.

And this year, I decided it was time for us to have stockings. I still have some great excess fabric from the holiday inspired earrings I’ve created and from various clothing collections. So I set out for some pin-spiration and using the excess fabric in the studio I made our family Christmas Stockings.

Being that I never made a stocking before I decided to checkout Pinterest for stocking ideas. Here are the ones I liked best for the pocket detail and different top fold style:

I decided to use these fabrics, since they would be able to transition for multiple years and themes we may decide on.

For my daughter and my stockings I wanted to use the striped fabric for a hint of a candy cane feel, and use my silver Vegan leather fabric as the accent color. ย For Cruz and our soon-to-be little one I wanted to use the plaid fabric and accent it with the gold Vegan Leather fabric- I figured the navy and plaid could lend itself to feeling a bit more masculine in design.

Once I knew my color schemes for each stocking design, I had to learn how to make the pattern for a stocking. So of course I used my go-to: I googled it, then YouTubed it. ย I found a blog that described how to measure a basic stocking and how to sew it as well. It was enough for me; because all of the details that I liked most from my inspiration images I made custom patterns for.

After deciding on the small details here’s the final project! Our new family stockings:

In looking back, each year has been so vastly different, but all so fun in making the DIY gifts for others and additions to our home.
